Initially bred as fowling and small game dogs in France, poodles have a wool non shedding low allergenic coat. Poodles rank in the top 3 for intelligence, therefore they are extremely easy to train in any number of roles. Poodles are predominantly used in the “work arena” as Assist dogs and Therapy dogs.
Poodles have a soft mouth and caring temperament, they are a little yappy when excited however they are easily trained to be quiet on demand. They inherently possess fowling dog genes and they love water.
Hence the “poodle cut” , originally designed to keep their heart warm and beating in the icy winter waters of France.
Poodles are highly intelligent and as such bond strongly with their family. They think they are human.
With the advent of an empty nest, i.e. all our 7 children have grown up and left home.
We decided we liked Poodles so much, that our family of 3 (Dawn, Graeme and Posh) expanded to include Oden, followed by Freya then Frig and Fulla is our most recent acquisition. They are our fur babies, living in our home as part of our family. When litters arrive the puppies are raised in our home as well albeit we have a separate area for them, all set up with whelping boxes and incubators and a play room and dog wash and drying area.
While we do not register our prodigy with Dogs NZ. we guarantee the purebred lineage using genetic breed testing.
